OpenAI announced on Thursday that it has introduced an AI search engine called SearchGPT. Although it is not yet available to the public, we do know a few things about it. Here is what we know, compiled in this article.

Old rumors

In my article titled “Bir Rüyalarımız Kalmıştı: Sora” on our website, dated March 31, I mentioned rumors that OpenAI might release a search engine. Now, that rumor has become a reality.

At this point, I wanted to share with you the information and knowledge we have gathered about the SearchGPT released by OpenAI. So, let’s take a look.

What is SearchGPT?

OpenAI explained the following in a blog post:

Getting answers on the web can take a lot of effort, often requiring multiple attempts to get relevant results. We believe that by enhancing the conversational capabilities of our models with real-time information from the web, finding what you’re looking for can be faster and easier.

From this, we can understand that OpenAI aims to dominate the search world as well. Currently, GPT Plus subscribers can make requests to GPT to search the web, but this is a limited feature. It summarizes pages after reviewing several websites and provides you with the information.

However, SearchGPT is a different case. You will be able to perform the same searches you would make on search engines like Google, Yandex, or Microsoft Bing directly on GPT Search.

Like ChatGPT, SearchGPT will not only allow you to send single search queries but also help you narrow down your results with follow-up queries to get the best possible information.

Not much information

Although OpenAI has published a blog post and major news outlets have tried to provide some details, we can’t say that we have full access to information, especially from official sources.
